The Week in Review at HMS: Notes from Dr. Cockley

Week of September 8, 2025

A LIFE-CHANGING Experience: In our Service Learning & Careers course, students are partnering with Hands of Gratitude - a program that uses 3D printing technology to create prosthetic hands for individuals around the world. Through this work, students learn about the need, the global network making it possible, and the impact on recipients’ lives. Want to be part of the change? Explore sponsorship opportunities to help support this powerful program: Hands of Gratitude Sponsorship flyer

Tonight’s the night! Our amazing 8th grade band takes the field with the HS Marching Band at the Friday Night Football Game! Catch them at 6:45 p.m. and during the first quarter!

Never Forget 9/11. So proud of 6th grade Social Studies students for their thoughtful reflections and recognizing the courage demonstrated by so many people around the world.

Stories have ups and downs too! Students map out rising action, climax, and resolution while studying “Characters Who Change and Grow.”

Our HMS media center is in full swing as we welcomed several LA classes this week! Introducing all of the incredible resources available, as well as previewing a few exciting new titles!

A huge THANK YOU to our amazing Leaders and Greeters! Every morning, students volunteer their time to keep traffic moving smoothly and to welcome everyone with a smile. We’re so grateful for the positive energy they bring to start our day!

HS Football Games:

Thank you for reviewing the email that was sent recently from our High School Athletic Director, Mike Chuppa, regarding our Elementary and Middle School students at the High School Football games. We truly appreciate your help with this! In part:

  • Middle school and elementary students attending games are encouraged to sit with their parents or families in the stands. Parents are responsible for the supervision of, or arranging supervision for, their children.
  • “The Hill” area is closed, near the endzone by the home stands and the visiting stands.
  • Roughhousing, throwing items, climbing on fencing and beams, and/or using profane language are strictly prohibited.
  • Please leave footballs at home. They are not to be brought to the game.

9/16 is Portrait of an Explorer Day #1!

  • On Tuesday, September 16, as part of our focus on being one community and part of the Hudson family, we are all wearing our Portrait of an Explorer shirts for our first POE day of the school year - Adaptive Problem Solver.
  • A new complimentary Portrait of an Explorer shirt will be distributed to each student in homeroom on this day
  • Adaptive Problem Solver: An Explorer perseveres to reach solutions, even in rapidly changing environments filled with diverse views, obstacles, and sometimes failure.

Student Fees - in PaySchools later this month:

  • HMS and HHS school fees and athletic/activity fees will soon be available for parents/guardians to pay in PaySchools.
  • Watch for more communication about timing and how to access fees.

  • Great hours! Outstanding people!
  • We have a few openings in our amazing Hudson Middle School kitchen - the heart of our school.
  • The role is part-time daily from 8:30am - 1:00pm. We also have options for shorter hours if that works with your schedule better.

  • If you know of anyone who might consider this role, please reach out to them to share about this opportunity. You may know a retired friend, a recent graduate, or someone thinking about re-entering the workforce. Thank you so much for helping to spread the news.
