The Week in Review at HMS: Notes from Dr. Cockley

Week of September 22, 2025

Huge thanks to our Hudson EMS team for stopping by HMS! Our Medical Detectives students got a hands-on look at their training, services, and life-saving equipment - and a glimpse into what it takes to be real-life heroes!

Big congratulations (and a HUGE thank you!) to our September Students Making a Difference honorees! These incredible students shine with kindness, hard work, and compassion - always welcoming, inclusive, and leading with positivity. 🌟

Shoutout to our amazing school counselors! 💙 Thank you, Mrs. Streby, for visiting 6th grade classrooms to share what you do, introduce students to your virtual classroom and resources, and check in on how the year is going. We’re so grateful for all the ways our counselors support our HMS community!

Future world-builders at work! Our Social Studies students are bringing their Create-a-Country projects to life - designing maps, building civilizations, and showing off their amazing creativity!

Students take the stage to share about the books they are reading with their peers, in the Mr. Standley Show!

Hands-on learning in action! Our STEAM students put their cardboard bridge designs to the test - adding weight, cheering each other on, and seeing which bridge can hold the most!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Five stars! Hudson City Schools and Hudson Middle School are shining bright on the State Report Card - a true celebration of our students, staff, families, and community who make this possible every day.

Interested in Serving as a Substitute? Our district is actively looking for substitute teachers and staff members to help support our students. If you’ve ever considered stepping into our schools, this is a wonderful way to make a difference in the lives of students and support our community. Even a day or two of your time can have a big impact. We’d love for you to consider joining us - our students (and staff!) would truly appreciate your help!

Safety/Parking Reminder from our HMS Athletic Supervisor:

  • Student safety is our #1 priority, especially at pick up times.
  • Please refrain from waiting for your athlete in any of the fire lanes on campus. Please park in a parking lot and have them use a crosswalk to safely make their way to you.
  • Please share this information with siblings or relatives who may also be coming to pick up your athlete. As a community, we each play a role in this safety plan.
  • This is primarily a concern near Malson. Our Fire Department has asked us to keep this exit lane moving and free from stopped vehicles.
