The Week in Review at HMS: Notes from Dr. Cockley

Week of September 15, 2025

In our Hands of Gratitude project, students designed heartfelt cards and bags to share our gratitude and express our care for the recipient. Here, this translates to: “We are glad that we could give you a helping hand.”

Some of our 7th grade students visited McDowell to work alongside two kindergarten classes on a butterfly project! Time outside in the forest, and time learning together!

Lego Masters Challenge Day! Adaptive Problem Solver themes connected to our Community Agreements - students had a GREAT day! One shared “I’ve never been so locked in!” :-)

6th graders and 3rd graders helped each other solve a math and social studies escape room. Even our Hudson High School Service Learning students were involved!

Hands-on history! 8th grade American History students stepped into the bustling world of colonial trade to see how Mother Countries controlled commerce, and how colonies learned to adapt.

After reading the book City of Ember, students were provided a behind-the-scenes glimpse of our own “Pipeworks” of Hudson Middle School, with Custodian Paul! Thank you, Mr. Kane, for helping our students make a special connection to the book!

PE classes begin their Football Unit by learning and practicing the step-by-step elements of a consistent football throw! What a beautiful day!

Start with Hello Week - week of 9/22:

  • During the week of September 22, we will share the positive message of Start with Hello week with our students via morning announcements.
  • The purpose of Start with Hello week is to help build connections among students, to counteract loneliness and isolationism. With a focus on positive actions students and staff can do, we hope to build upon our culture of inclusiveness.
  • At HMS, our Advisory lesson this week will be centered around this theme.
  • On Thursday, September 25, as part of Start with Hello week, let’s all wear Explorer attire, or navy and white, to celebrate our Hudson family and that we are all here to support one another!
