The Week in Review at HMS: Notes from Dr. Cockley
Week of March 16, 2026
Wishing you a wonderful Spring Break!

Bravo to the incredible cast and crew of High School Musical Jr.! Your performances were outstanding! Thank you for sharing your time, talent, and energy with our community!

Getting ready to welcome our future Explorers! Students came together to share their best middle school advice and prepare for our 5th-to-6th Grade Orientation and HMS Showcase. From tour guides to panelists, these student leaders are ready to roll out the red carpet - thank you for helping make our 5th grade visitors feel right at home!

Our student entrepreneurs brought their ideas to life with a Spring Store, along with their teachers! From designing products to welcoming guests and calculating purchases, they handled it all - and made our days brighter along the way.

The British Empire Strikes Back… The War of 1812! Our American History historians are bringing the past to life with a Star Wars twist!

Our Book Club is gearing up for a great discussion with Mrs. Kingan, and looking ahead with excitement to the upcoming Kent State Reading and Writing Festival!

Our art classroom display window is filled with creativity! From book sculptures to personalized tic-tac-toe boards, our student artists are showcasing their imagination and personality in the most inspiring ways!

Such a fun way to end our day before Spring Break….with our annual Student-Staff Basketball Game! It was a close one…ending with foul shots after the buzzer…and the students WON by 1 point! Thank you to our participants, and to our whole school for coming together to just have FUN! Happy Spring Break from our HMS family to yours!

Chromebook Reminders
- Recently there has been an increase in Chromebook damage at HMS. Please take this opportunity to remind your student(s) that Chromebooks should be properly cared for and are property of the school district.
- Chromebooks should ALWAYS be in their district-provided protective cases. Willful and deliberate damage is not covered by insurance, which includes removing the frame, removing the keyboard faceplate, disconnecting the mic or camera, writing anywhere on the device, and more.
- For more information about Chromebooks and insurance coverage, please visit https://www.hudson.k12.oh.us/departments/technology/11-insurance-information.
- Thank you for your help in promoting positive Chromebook care!

HMS Cell Phone (and Smart Watch) Reminder:
Our HMS communication device policy (cell phones, including smart watches, etc) is as follows:

If a student chooses to bring the phone to any of our classrooms, the phones must be silenced and stored in the classroom-provided cell phone holder. You are responsible for your own device and, as always, are not to touch anyone else’s. If you are using your smart watch as a communication tool, it will be treated like a phone and will need to be stored in the classroom cell phone holder.
- During lunch: No. Cell phone use during lunch in the cafeteria is not permitted. Our goal is to provide time for students to enjoy lunch and connect with their peers personally. Students may utilize their school-issued Chromebook during lunch for educational purposes only.
