The Week in Review at HMS: Notes from Dr. Cockley
Week of February 16, 2026

Congratulations to HMS Champion Speller, Hyun Su Kim (6th grade), and our two Runners-Up, Moksh Bafna (7th grade) and Mia Teusan (8th grade)! HyunSu will compete in an online competition in early March in an attempt to earn a spot at the Regional Bee in Akron in mid-March! Thank you to our amazing judges and staff helpers for making this Bee a success! And, to all of our spellers, we are so very proud of you!

Spreading kindness throughout our school! 💛 A group of our awesome students brightened the day by sharing sweet treats and positive notes with classroom guests. Thank you for making a difference and showing how small acts of kindness can create a big impact!

Spreading kindness beyond our walls ❤️ Our 6 Respect Team put their hearts into creating Valentine’s for Laurel Lakes residents, and two students thoughtfully delivered them to residents! So proud of these students for leading with compassion and community!

Our 7 Voyagers team recently visited the Mimi Ohio Theatre to experience Sankofa, bringing their 7th grade Social Studies standards to life - making connections between moments and people in ancient history and their impact on the modern world!

7 Adventurers students are powering up their learning through their interdisciplinary electrical house projects! From creating precise scale drawings to building functional circuits, students are applying science, engineering, and problem-solving skills in hands-on, collaborative ways!

It’s Book Bingo time in our Media Center! From January - March 31, readers can complete fun reading tasks, fill their boards, and enter to win a prize. We love seeing our students grow their love of reading, one square at a time!

Traffic Procedure Reminders:
AM drop-off notes:
- Bus transportation is encouraged, to reduce the car traffic on our campus and on surrounding streets for our neighbors.
- If opting to drop your child off in the morning:
- Enter via Oviatt. Please do not enter from Franklin. (Franklin Street is exit only, during AM and PM HMS arrival/dismissal times)
- Please pull up as far as possible toward the visitors spots in our circle, before your child exits the vehicle.
- Please do NOT stop in front of the pillars, if you are able to pull forward further. This helps keep the traffic moving smoothly, for maximum efficiency.
- And a HUGE Shout Out and THANK YOU to our morning Leaders and Greeters! These student volunteers have helped tremendously with our traffic flow and reminders in the morning! They are AMAZING! At times, though, they are unable to assist, so we kindly ask that you continue to follow the procedures even when you don’t see a student or adult helping in the circle.
PM pick-up notes:
- Please enter from Oviatt.
- The Pick Up Zone is the entirety of the sidewalk along the drive and throughout the circle.
- The center lane (eastbound left lane) is for cautious bi-bass/continuous traffic to aid in overall flow.
- Please pull forward as far as possible before picking up your child, to allow for safe flow of traffic.
- Please do not use other parking lot areas to pick up your child, as this means that children are often walking directly in the path of oncoming traffic, including school buses.
As a reminder, our traffic procedures are located on our website, under For Families > Parent Dashboard > Drop-Off and Pick Up Procedures.
Thank you so much for taking note of these procedures. It requires everyone’s help to make this process go smoothly and safely, so THANK YOU!
