The Week in Review at HMS: Notes from Dr. Cockley

Week of December 15, 2025

HMS wishes you a wonderful holiday season, from our family to yours!

During this last week of school in 2025, we enjoyed a number of student-led festivities, including Holiday Spirit Wear and Student Council's COLOR WARS; music assemblies showcasing our 8th grade Orchestra, our HMS Jazz Band, and our HMS Show Choir; and a Winter Pep Assembly with a fun competition - the Student-Staff Volleyball Game!

What a wonderful week that celebrates what we are all about: relationships!

Operation Warm Feet! Thanks to our 6 Service community for collecting socks to donate to the Haven of Rest Ministries in Akron. This year, the team collected over 2240 pairs of socks!!

Shoutout to these amazing students - our December Students Making a Difference! Selected by staff for their kindness, inclusivity, and positive impact on our school community. We are so lucky to have them at HMS!

What a fantastic evening performance this week by our 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Bands! Under the direction of Mr. Rodesh and Mr. Burrington, our student musicians showcased their hard work and talents, from the first note to the final applause! Bravo!! There was even a special guest appearance by Mr. Brown as narrator!

Congratulations on your retirement, Mrs. Bohrer! After 20+ years of service in our cafeteria and study hall, Mrs. Bohrer will be missed! We wish you all the best in this next chapter in your life!

What an amazing morning of music at HMS!! WOW!!! Thank you to our 8th grade Orchestra, our HMS Show Choir, and our HMS Jazz Band for sharing your talents and hard work with all of us, in grade level assemblies! A highlight of our day today, and a beautiful tradition at HMS!

Thank you to our PTO and parent volunteers for providing a delicious Holiday Luncheon for our staff. We loved spending time together with good food and good friends, and just taking a moment to relax and laugh together!

Happy Holidays from HMS!

Important Notes:

Enjoy your Winter Break! We’ll see our students back at HMS on Monday, January 5!

Securly App - Winter Break Monitoring:

  • As we head into Winter Break, we encourage families to download the Securly App to stay informed about your child’s online activity when using a school-owned device.
  • Please note that during extended breaks, our team has limited availability and is unable to monitor Securly alerts on a regular basis.
  • If you haven’t already, we recommend downloading the app and signing in using the email address associated with your Home Access Center (HAC) account. Please see our district Technology website for more information about Securly and the Securly App.
  • Thank you for partnering with us to support safe and responsible technology use!

Quarter 2 Report Cards and Information:

  • Quarter 2 report cards will be available by Friday, January 9, at 4:00pm in HAC.
  • Each quarter, the report card is available electronically by clicking on the Grades icon in HAC. Once there, click on the Print button in the upper right corner to view the Report Card on our official middle school report card template. You can then choose to print, save, or simply view the report card.
  • A paper copy of the report card is sent home only for the first and last quarter of the school year.
  • At Hudson Middle School, we calculate Honor Rolls for Semester 1 and Semester 2.

Supporting a Great Start Each Day - AM Drop Off Time Reminders:

  • To help our students’ school day start smoothly, please remember that HMS Homeroom begins promptly at 7:50 AM
  • Students should arrive and enter the main door by 7:40 AM, allowing enough time to walk to their grade-level wing, visit their lockers, and get to class ready to learn.
  • Thank you for your continued support in helping our mornings run smoothly - we truly appreciate it!

1/21/26 Six District Compact Career Program Showcase:

  • Attention Middle & High School Families, you are invited on Wednesday, January 21 between 4:30-6 p.m. to the Career Program Showcase at Kent State University to tour the exhibits of the 30 Career-Technical Education programs within the Six District Compact.
  • See flyer for more details.
