The Week in Review at HMS: Notes from Dr. Cockley

Week of November 17, 2025

It's been a wonderful November at HMS...from honoring our veterans on Veterans Day, to welcoming in 90 senior citizens to our Thanksgiving Luncheon. In addition, as part of our Holiday Sharing program, our school and community came together to provide families here in Hudson with a Thanksgiving meal and food for this holiday season. THANK YOU!

This month reminds us of what the season is all about, being thankful and grateful.

Wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Thank you, thank you, thank you to our amazing kitchen staff for the delicious Thanksgiving Luncheon on Thursday! This is truly a highlight in our school year, because it reminds us that we are a family, as a school and community! Thank you to all who served (students AND staff!). Happy Thanksgiving!

Our 7th grade students created a collaborative flag, honoring Veterans in their families and from the larger community. Thank you, Veterans, for your service to our country.

Thank you to our HMS Student Council for sharing their thankfulness for our HMS staff, by bringing a staff treat cart throughout our hallways! Smiles all around!

Long division gets a fun twist! Students played “Remainders Wanted,” using game boards, chips, and dice to practice division problems and score the highest remainders. Lots of smiles, strategy, and friendly competition!

Our 7th graders are bringing their Science designs to life! They created cars in BlocksCAD, printed them on our 3D printers, and soon they'll paint and race them. What a fun way to explore force and motion!

6th Grade Shark Tank - Battle of the Best! Our guest judges had a very difficult time choosing the winning inventions, because all of our students were OUTSTANDING!!!

Hudson Middle School, an AMLE School of Distinction! We were honored to officially receive this incredible recognition at the national AMLE Conference in Indianapolis last week! This celebration is all about our amazing students, dedicated staff, and supportive families. Thank you for making HMS such a special place for young people to learn and grow!

HMS Staff Shout Outs:

Has an HMS staff member made a difference for your child? We love to show appreciation for our amazing staff at HMS! Here’s an opportunity to share more personally if a staff member has made a difference, no matter how big or small. I will be sure to recognize their efforts individually and quietly. Important Reminders from our Attendance Office:

  • A friendly reminder to please send your child with a dismissal note, the morning of their appointment, if you will be picking them up early. This will allow the attendance office to give your child a pass to return to the office for their appointment time. This process allows us to keep classroom interruptions to a minimum and prompt arrival of your students for their departure.
  • If you did not send in a note with your child, please bring your photo ID for verification, and please be prepared to wait for your child to arrive from class - thank you for your patience and understanding.
  • In addition, if your child will be missing school for a planned time away, please have them fill out an Advanced Absence Form, available in the Main Office. These forms are an important communication tool between the student and their teachers and will be noted upon being filled out and returned to the Attendance Office.

Interested in Serving as a Substitute?

  • Our district is actively looking for substitute teachers and staff members to help support our students. If you’ve ever considered stepping into our schools, this is a wonderful way to make a difference in the lives of students and support our community. Even a day or two of your time can have a big impact.
  • We’d love for you to consider joining us - our students (and staff!) would truly appreciate your help!
