The Week in Review at HMS: Notes from Dr. Cockley
Week of November 10, 2025

Kicking off our first Principals' Advisory Committee (PAC) meeting of the year! Students from every grade are coming together to share ideas and help make HMS the very best it can be - a place where everyone belongs. 💙 Here, they hold the AMLE School of Distinction banner we recently received at the AMLE National Conference in Indianapolis! This honor is all about our amazing students, dedicated staff, and supportive families. Thank you for making HMS such a special place for young people to learn and grow!

YES WE CAN! HMS is collecting canned food items, through 11/19, as part of our district’s Holiday Sharing program! Your generosity directly supports families in need right here in our community. More details in Important Notes below.

Lights, camera, rotation! 7th grade scientists are using Google Vids to create stop-motion models of the Earth, Moon, and Sun in action!

What happens when antibiotics meet bacteria? Our Medical Detectives are finding out - designing their own experiments and tracking results over time!

Pizza + math = the perfect ratio! Math students explored proportionality by scaling and graphing their pizza dough recipes!

One message, many mutations! 8th grade Science used a round of telephone to model how information can change as it’s passed along - a fun way to think about the concept of mutations!

In Spanish, students are out in the Team Learning Area creating a recorded interview where they discuss their school schedules, practicing key vocabulary!

6th graders took center stage today as they presented their inventions to a panel of judges. Huge thanks to our amazing parent and community volunteers! Our students blew us away with their creativity, confidence, and problem-solving skills!
Important Notes:
HMS Staff Shout Outs:
Has an HMS staff member made a difference for your child? We love to show appreciation for our amazing staff at HMS! Here’s an opportunity to share more personally if a staff member has made a difference, no matter how big or small. I will be sure to recognize their efforts individually and quietly. Holiday Sharing Fun Events Next Week

- Wednesday, 11/19: Hat Day - $1 donation
- Friday, 11/21: Pajama Day - $1 donation
Additionally, special thanks to Mrs. Bohrer and Mrs. Platt for facilitating the ever-popular “Sit with a Friend during Studyhall” for $1!
Holiday Sharing 2025 - HMS is collecting food items - through 11/19
- Hudson Middle School is proud to support Holiday Sharing 2025, Hudson’s annual food drive to help local families during the holiday season.
- Through 11/19, students are encouraged to bring in non-expired food items or monetary donations to support children and families right here in our Hudson community.
- NEW THIS YEAR: Each middle school community is collecting a specific food item - click here for the detailed list of requested donations.
- This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to show kindness, compassion, and community spirit. Thank you for your generosity and for helping make the holidays brighter for local families!
11/20 Thanksgiving Luncheon
- Our annual Thanksgiving Luncheon will be Thursday, 11/20, with extended lunches for each grade.
- Our wonderful cooks are preparing a traditional feast of roasted turkey, sides, pumpkin cookie, and milk. The student price for this meal is $4.00. This will be the only menu item available that day, so if this menu is not to the student’s liking, please pack a lunch.
- The students will be served by their teachers and staff. We will all be entertained by members of our Orchestra!
Important Reminders from our Attendance Office:
- A friendly reminder to please send your child with a dismissal note, the morning of their appointment, if you will be picking them up early. This will allow the attendance office to give your child a pass to return to the office for their appointment time. This process allows us to keep classroom interruptions to a minimum and prompt arrival of your students for their departure.
- If you did not send in a note with your child, please bring your photo ID for verification, and please be prepared to wait for your child to arrive from class - thank you for your patience and understanding.
- In addition, if your child will be missing school for a planned time away, please have them fill out an Advanced Absence Form, available in the Main Office. These forms are an important communication tool between the student and their teachers and will be noted upon being filled out and returned to the Attendance Office.
Interested in Serving as a Substitute?
- Our district is actively looking for substitute teachers and staff members to help support our students. If you’ve ever considered stepping into our schools, this is a wonderful way to make a difference in the lives of students and support our community. Even a day or two of your time can have a big impact.
- We’d love for you to consider joining us - our students (and staff!) would truly appreciate your help!
