The Week in Review at HMS: Notes from Dr. Cockley
Week of October 6, 2025

Students test and tweak their LEGO car prototypes as they explore potential and kinetic energy. Each design adjustment brings them closer to a faster, more efficient derby car they will eventually design in BlocksCAD to be 3D printed here at HMS!

Students (and staff!) are taking their place in KINDness - literally! Striking a pose as the “I” in KIND to celebrate spreading kindness all month long.

The joy of reading is contagious! HMS students explore shelves of stories during the Scholastic Book Fair.

Scavenger Hunt mode: ON! Language Arts students collaborate to find the best text evidence to support each claim!

Our HS Service Learning student taught some of our 6th grade Social Studies students latitude and longitude by playing Battle Ship!

It’s Greek Olympics Day at HMS for two of our 7th grade communities! Athens and Sparta face off in friendly competition as students bring Ancient Greece to life - team spirit, sunshine, and history all in one!

Panorama Survey - 10/31 during FOCUS:
- On September 26, communication was sent by Jennifer Reece to families of students in grades 3-12 about our upcoming Fall Panorama Survey. Information from this survey provides us with valuable information about the effectiveness of our programming, helps us to create additional learning opportunities, and guides us in creating safe and supportive learning environments.
- At HMS, we will be administering the survey during FOCUS on October 31.
- If you would like to opt your child out of the survey, but have not yet notified me this school year and received a reply, please email Kim Cockley, HMS Principal, via email at cockleyk@hudson.k12.oh.us by October 9. We appreciate you letting us know annually, because preferences and situations sometimes change. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Student Fees - in PaySchools:
- HMS and HHS school fees and athletic/activity fees are available for parents/guardians to pay in PaySchools.
- Thank you for visiting this site to pay fees: https://www.payschoolscentral.com/
