The Week in Review at HMS: Notes from Dr. Cockley
Week of October 27, 2025

Sixth graders are learning to stay smart and safe online! Thanks to Mrs. Kingan for teaching important Digital Literacy lessons on topics like creating secure passwords and protecting personal information.

Our 7th and 8th graders brought amazing energy and insight to team reflections on Sense of Belonging (7th grade) and Resilience and Self Advocacy (8th grade)! Thank you, Mrs. Wilkerson, for helping us grow as a community that supports and lifts one another.

We’re leaning all the way in to middle school lingo… So how many nights a week should you be reading? 6–7! Love this poster at our middle school media center entrances!

Building strength and having fun! HMS students put their core to the test in Health & Wellness class during their Physical Fitness unit!

It's Boogie Down Friday in our HMS Kitchen! Fun music, big smiles, and great vibes all around - one student even said, "This is my favorite part of every week!" Thanks to Miss Denise for keeping the energy (and the good tunes) going! Our kitchen crew rocks!!

Halloween at HMS! We love seeing so many creative costumes and smiling faces - a perfect mix of fun and school spirit!
Important Notes:
11/3 Ready Set Relax!
- Hudson Community First is sponsoring Ready, Set, Relax! on November 3! This is an evening without homework and limited activities to allow students and families to spend some quality time together! 11/4 POE Day - Empathetic Contributor
- A reminder for students and staff to wear their Portrait of an Explorer “Why Not?” shirts on Tuesday, 11/4, as a celebration of our entire community of learners!
- Empathetic Contributor: An Explorer understands and learns from others’ feelings, thoughts, and experiences. An Explorer actively looks for opportunities that improve the lives of others.
Reminder for this Week: 11/4 Be Kind and Safe Online Presentation
- SRO Brian Logue and Detective Tavis Campbell, from the Hudson Police Department, will join us as special guest presenters to speak with students about online safety and digital citizenship, in grade-level assemblies on Tuesday, 11/4.
- This proactive and positive program has been tailored for each grade level through collaboration with our school counselors and administrators.
- This presentation directly supports our Portrait of an Explorer theme that day, of Empathetic Contributor. Our students are learning that their actions in person, and online, affect others. By learning to be safe, respectful, and responsible digital citizens, students practice empathy and actively look for opportunities that improve the lives of others, making their online communities (and their school community) a better place for everyone.
