Week of September 23, 2024
7th and 8th grade students met in their teams with Mrs. Wilkerson to reflect on Sense of Belonging! This presentation was developed with input from our school counselors and clinical counselor, and our Panorama Survey data, based on our students' experiences. Students shared such insightful ideas about Belonging and Empathy. They collaboratively created definitions in 10 words or fewer. Such as: “When you feel like you can be yourself. Period.” and “To be kind to someone even if it doesn’t benefit you.” Mrs. Wilkerson also reminded us that we rise by lifting others. Thank you, Mrs. Wilkerson!
Students collaborated to determine four words describing how they would like to treat each other, as part of their Community Agreements: 1) Cooperative, 2) Inclusive, 3) Helpful, and 4) Respectful.
It’s always inspiring to see our students shine! 7th grade band students bring the energy to their classroom!
Students in STEAM class complete various challenges that involve designing and testing structures - great teamwork and creativity!
Students work in teams to find text evidence related to characterization, in their short story “7th Grade.” What a great way to take students back into the text to learn about elements of literature!
It’s the HOT SEAT game in math class! Students practice solving equations, some in small groups and some in the “hot seat” (which is really a kind, friendly place off to the side - no worries!) Then they compare answers to be sure they’ve solved correctly!
In Health and Wellness class, students participated in a study of music and mood, identifying different moods as they listened to music. Then they placed their colored square “answers” into bins to see if they all agreed!
Science students are learning about plant cells, cell organelles and their functions. Each student is assigned an organelle, then they draw a picture, write about its function, and give an analogy.
Students test their lego cars, as they measure a variety of factors and how these impact speed. 7th grade Science class is so much fun!
