The Week in Review at HMS: Notes from Dr. Cockley

One of our 6th grade teams is sending international partnership stories home with our Fulbright scholar, Alla! Our students wrote the beginning of the stories to the climax, and Alla’s students will finish the stories. What an incredible collaboration! Excited to read the final stories and meet our co-authors via Zoom!

7th graders record their collaborative song with special guest teaching artist, Sam Hooper, from Roots of American Music, during their Stop the Hate unit. What a powerful chorus the students created together!

NO OCEAN OF VIOLENCE IS TOO STRONG

NO RIVER OF HATE IS TOO POWERFUL

NO MATTER HOW FAR APART WE SEEM

KINDNESS IS A BRIDGE TO UNITY, A BRIDGE TO UNITY

7th grade students, in small groups, discuss the book Quiet Power: The Secret Strengths of Introverted Kids.

6th grade students share their Book Talks on the stage! During this project, they each had a choice of book project, as well, and shared those with their peers!

Studying Pedigree Charts in Science class! Students work with task cards and charts to practice their learning of genetics.

8th grade History students in their Team Learning area, learning about a variety of topics on a “scavenger hunt.” We love seeing students up and moving, as they learn!

Thank you to our HHS HUDDLE Mentors for talking with our 6th and 8th grade students about positive decision making! In 6th grade, the lessons focus on healthy living (including drug/alcohol prevention), and in 8th grade, the focus is on a successful transition to High School and beyond. Such a positive collaboration between HMS and HHS - thank you!

YES WE CAN! HMS is collecting canned food items, 10/14 through 11/20, as part of our district’s Holiday Sharing program! Your generosity directly supports families in need right here in our community. More details in Important Notes below.

Holiday Sharing 2024 - HMS is collecting canned food items – 10/14 through 11/20.

  • HMS students are asked to bring in non-expired canned goods for donation. Since these cans will be used long past Thanksgiving, please consider donating a variety of foods (click here for a detailed list of requested items).
  • Science teachers will be collecting the cans in their classrooms.
  • This is an opportunity to help out our own community and the children and families who live here. Your kindness and generosity will make a positive difference during the holidays for the families of Hudson. We appreciate your help!
  • Please see our HMS Holiday Sharing flier for details on how we are celebrating and helping, together! Fun days ahead, as part of our monetary collection, include: “Sit with a Friend” Days in Studyhall, Pajama Day, and Hat Day!

HMS Report Cards - Friday 10/25

  • Each quarter the report card is available electronically in HAC. For the first quarter, because it is the first report card of the year, we also will send home a paper copy with students on Friday, 10/25.
  • If  you’d like to print directly from HAC, click on the Grades icon in HAC. Once there, click on the Print button in the upper right corner to view the Report Card on our official middle school report card template. You can then choose to print, save, or simply view the report card.
  • At Hudson Middle School, we calculate Honor Rolls only at Semester 1 and Semester 2.

HMS Choose Kindness Month / Bullying Prevention Month in October:

  • It’s October Choose Kindness Month! Check out our Calendar of Events created to intentionally teach and enhance bullying prevention strategies.
  • Our goals this month include:
    • Learn about Bullying Prevention (that we CAN make a difference!)
    • Spread kindness, inclusion, and acceptance
    • Promote a sense of belonging for all of our students
  • Throughout the entire school year, our conversations center on kindness and belonging, and counteracting and preventing bullying.

HMS Halloween, 10/31

  • This year's Choose Kindness Month word-of-the-day for October 31 is SAFE SPACE. Have some fun today, and be yourself. Wear a costume if you'd like!

  • If you choose to wear a different costume, please keep these guidelines in mind:
