The Week in Review at HMS: Notes from Dr. Cockley

Thank you to Mr. Jackson, not only for your service, but also for spending some of your time with the 7 Voyagers Team. We loved hearing about Veterans Day history, and your experience in the military. Thank you to all who serve or have served our country.

In 8th grade History, students play the NewlyWed Notes game, summarizing the key points from their reading, and then earning points for “matches” with their partner! Such a fun way to engage students in learning!

Literary Suspense! Language Arts students work collaboratively to write a suspenseful short story, using elements of writing that create anticipation and tension for the reader. Later, students will share with their peers through a museum walk!

Natural selection at work, in 8th grade Science class! Using forks with different numbers of tines, to “eat” fruit loops, students track data over 10 “generations.”

Active learning! Eighth grade Social Studies classes simulating tax collection during the 1700s, post French and Indian War.

Ohio’s favorable weather allowed us to extend our invasion games unit outdoors, giving teams additional opportunities to develop strategies and refine tactical positioning. This resulted in an exceptional 6th grade soccer unit! Congrats to the top 4 teams across the entire grade!

French students create a collaborative slideshow, with photos and videos from their National French Week projects! From preparing food for their families (LOVED those photos!!), to creating art work, to designing posters for the school, our students connected with others while celebrating the French culture!

Important Notes:

HMS Announcements - Please feel free to visit this site daily for up-to-date announcements for our students and school!

Lost and Found - Check this link to view current items in our Lost and Found. If you see an item that belongs to your family, please have your child stop by to retrieve it, in the Commons by the Student Resource Center.

Holiday Sharing 2024 - HMS is collecting canned food items – through 11/20.

We have a school-wide goal of 2 cans (or $2) per student, to help local families in need. Please consider helping us ACHIEVE, or SURPASS, this goal!

  • Science teachers are collecting the cans and monetary donations in their classrooms.
  • This is an opportunity to help out our own community and the children and families who live here. Your kindness and generosity will make a positive difference during the holidays for the families of Hudson.
  • We appreciate your help!

11/21 Thanksgiving Luncheon

  • One of our favorite days of the year is just around the corner! Our annual Thanksgiving Luncheon will be Thursday, 11/21, with extended lunches for each grade. Our wonderful cooks are preparing a traditional feast of roasted turkey, sides, cookies, and milk. The student price for this meal is $3.75.
  • This will be the only menu item available that day, so if this menu is not to the student’s liking, please pack a lunch.
  • The students will be served by their teachers and staff.
  • Thank you to members of our Orchestra for providing entertainment!

HMS Staff Shout Outs:

  • Has an HMS staff member made a difference for your child? We love to show appreciation for our amazing staff at HMS! Here’s an opportunity to share more personally if a staff member has made a difference, no matter how big or small. I will be sure to recognize their efforts individually and quietly.
