The Week in Review at HMS: Notes from Dr. Cockley

During our Portrait of an Explorer Day, students read the book Play Like a Girl by Misty Wilson, with activities and discussions centered on the book and its themes of resilience, growth mindset, and empathy! Looking forward to our AUTHOR VISIT next week with Misty Wilson (and husband/illustrator, David Wilson), thanks to our incredible PTO!

Pretzel Day! Thanks to our HMS German Club, in honor of the partnership of Hudson and our sister city (Landsberg, Germany), students were offered a German pretzel during lunch on Thursday!

THE BEST!!! 6th grade and 3rd grade “Math Buddies” started their collaboration today! Students will interact with each other focused on mathematical practices as well as our Advisory theme of Community! Loving these opportunities for our older and younger Explorers to make connections!

Spanish students welcomed guest speaker, Natalie, to class to learn about Paraguay! Natalie is a Hudson graduate who just completed her volunteer service in the Peace Corps as an agricultural teacher in Paraguay!

8th grade Science students begin their Forces unit. Students have cups without a bottom and must keep the marble in the cup while walking around the table!

7th grade students welcome Mrs. Wood, school counselor, for a career exploration lesson! This is one of many opportunities for students to think about and learn about future careers and pathways - thank you, Mrs. Wood!

It’s Pi Day! Students throughout the building work on projects related to pi - this group plots the digits of pi, with their own unique creativity shining through!

Congratulations to our Students Making a Difference for the month of February! These students make our school and community a better place and were honored for their kindness and hardwork!!!

Chromebook Reminders

  • Recently there has been an increase in Chromebook damage at HMS. Please take this opportunity to remind your student(s) that Chromebooks should be properly cared for and are property of the school district.
  • Chromebooks should ALWAYS be in their district-provided protective cases. Willful and deliberate damage is not covered by insurance, which includes removing the frame, picking off keys, writing anywhere on the device, and more.
  • For more information about Chromebooks and insurance coverage, please visit https://www.hudson.k12.oh.us/departments/technology/11-insurance-information
  • Thank you for your help in promoting positive Chromebook care!

Quarter 3 Report Cards and Information:

  • Quarter 3 report cards are available in HAC.
  • Each quarter, the report card is available electronically by clicking on the Grades icon in HAC. Once there, click on the Print button in the upper right corner to view the Report Card on our official middle school report card template.
