Week of February 17, 2025
We love white board tables! Sixth grade students examine artwork and write their reflections to the pieces, building upon others’ thoughts and documenting their own.
Health and Wellness students begin their unit on Mental Health, with the True Colors Personality Test, to learn more about themselves and one another.
Students in Painting and Drawing class are working on using watercolors and abstract space!
Exploring earthquakes in 8th grade Science, through a Gizmos (online) house-building activity…after building toothpick/marshmallow structures that were “tested” on the SHAKE TABLE!
Using Algebra Tiles in math, to explore area and perimeter in expanded form and simplified form (by combining like terms). Such a great visual representation!
In 7th grade Science class, students create a Seasons Poster, to showcase and synthesize all of their learning in this unit about seasons, solstices, rotations, distance, and so much more!
Through generous grant-funding, our 6th grade students had the incredible opportunity to see a traveling art exhibit and to learn from a Holocaust survivor, Mr. Stanley Bernath, during their visit to the Maltz Museum. "Using artificial intelligence (A.I.), the Maltz Museum has captured the life story of an ordinary man who survived extraordinary circumstances as a child survivor of the Holocaust. Stanley Bernath lost everything but he never gave up hope, eventually building a new life in Cleveland. For over 40 years Stanley shared his story with audiences across Ohio” including visiting with us in-person at Hudson Middle School in 2017!

Message from The Attendance Desk:
- Leaving for Vacation or an extended absence?

- Reporting or requesting Advanced Absence Forms earlier than 2 weeks ahead can lead to inaccurate attendance.

March Kindness Month
- Throughout the entire month of March, our focus will be on kindness, empathy, and belonging which are themes of the book Play Like a Girl, by local author Misty Wilson and illustrator David Wilson, who will be visiting our school on March 20, thanks to Hudson PTO! Of course, our goal is that every month is Kindness Month at HMS! :-)
- Our March Kindness schedule of events will include kindness-themed lesson plans for Team Advisory, themed dress-up days for Right to Read Week, and a day of reading/activities with Play Like a Girl on Empathetic Contributor Day (Tuesday, March 11) in preparation for the author visit.
Panorama Survey - 3/17 during Advisory:
- On February 18, 2025, communication was sent by Jennifer Reece to families of students in grades 3-12 about our upcoming Spring Panorama Survey. Information from this survey provides us with valuable information about the effectiveness of our programming, helps us to create additional learning opportunities, and guides us in creating safe and supportive learning environments.
- At HMS, we will be administering the survey during Advisory on Monday, March 17.
- If you would like to opt your child out of the survey, but have not yet notified me this school year and received a reply, please email Kim Cockley, HMS Principal, via email at cockleyk@hudson.k12.oh.us by Monday, March 10. We appreciate you letting us know annually, because preferences and situations sometimes change. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
