The Week in Review at HMS: Notes from Dr. Cockley

Congratulations to our November Students Making a Difference! These students make our school a better place! Their teachers described them with such AMAZING words: Kind, Inclusive, Welcoming, Positive, Uplifting, Hard-working, Conscientious…and Sweet as Apple Pie!

Love this collaboration! 3rd grade & 6th grade students partnered to prepare 100 gift bags to be delivered to a Veteran women and children shelter in North Carolina!

Such a beautiful choir concert this week….on our Snow Day!! The students were absolutely outstanding - thank you for sharing your talents and hard work with us! And thank you, Ms. Platek (choir director) and Mrs. Carey (accompanist)!

Our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Orchestras performed their Winter Holiday concert this week. Absolutely phenomenal. Thank you, students and Mr. Iriarte! What a beautiful concert as we head into our holiday season!

In Language Arts, students learned about themes through a fun surprise Grab Bag activity. Determining a topic from the items in the bag, and then collaborating to develop a theme from there!

Review stations in Math class! Our students are so collaborative, with great mathematical discussions!

Students in 7th grade Science created houses, as they learned about electrical circuits! The finished products are truly AMAZING!!! Our students are so creative!

Important Notes:

HMS Announcements - Please feel free to visit this site daily for up-to-date announcements for our students and school!

Lost and Found - Check this link to view current items in our Lost and Found. If you see an item that belongs to your family, please have your child stop by to retrieve it, in the Commons by the Student Resource Center.

PeachJar Flyers - Each Friday, we distribute an email with the latest electronic flyers that have been submitted and approved via our platform called Peachjar. Flyers typically provide information on events/happenings both in the district and in the greater community. Our district families are already uploaded into the system, so you should receive this directly to your email inbox regularly.

POE Day - Tuesday, 12/10

  • Next Tuesday, December 10, is our next Portrait of an Explorer Day? Our students and staff are encouraged to wear their Right Here Right Now t-shirts as a celebration of our PreK-12 school community. On Tuesday, we'll be focused on the theme of Engaged Collaborator!

Important Reminders from our Attendance Office:

  • A friendly reminder to please send your child with a note in the morning to the attendance office (just within the main office) if you know ahead of time that you'll be picking them up early. This provides notice to our office staff and enables your child to meet you promptly in the attendance office. If you did not send in a note with your child, please bring your photo ID with you when arriving to pick up your child, and please be prepared to wait for your child to arrive from class - thank you for your patience and understanding.
  • In addition, if your child will be missing school for a planned time away, please have them fill out an Advanced Absence Form, available in the Main Office. These forms are an important communication tool between the student and their teachers and will be noted upon being filled out and returned to the Attendance Office.

Six District Compact Career Program Showcase:

  • Attention Middle & High School Families, you are invited on January 7 between 4:30-6 p.m. to the Career Program Showcase at Kent State University to tour the exhibits of the 29 Career-Technical Education programs within the Six District Compact.
  • See flyer for more details.

HMS Staff Shout Outs:

  • Has an HMS staff member made a difference for your child? We love to show appreciation for our amazing staff at HMS! Here’s an opportunity to share more personally if a staff member has made a difference, no matter how big or small. I will be sure to recognize their efforts individually and quietly.
