The Week in Review at HMS: Notes from Dr. Cockley

State Champions! The “You Be The Chemist” team of Kyson, Yi-Chuan, Jonathan, and Harrison is advancing to the National competition in Houston on June 10-11! They are one of ONLY FIVE TEAMS in the COUNTRY moving on to nationals! Congratulations!!! We are so proud of you and inspired by your accomplishments!

We had a visit from Thor, our Hudson Explorer mascot, today! Celebrating our Science Olympiad team as they head to the State Competition this weekend in Columbus! And our You Be the Chemist team, who just learned that they are heading to the National Competition!

Two school records were broken at this week’s Track Meet!! Congratulations to Tyler Piroli, who broke the school record in the 200m run - at 23.8! The previous record was 23.9, held by Josh Smith (1992) and Allister Leedam (2022). And Congratulations to Colt Nelman, who broke the school record in the 110m hurdles - at 15.76! The previous record was 16.26, held by Andrew Incavo (2011).

STEM Career Day! A HUGE THANK YOU to our incredible community and parent guest presenters, who volunteered their time to share about STEM in their careers with our 6th grade students!

A SURPRISE congratulations to Mr. Fejes, who learned today that he is being honored as the PTO Teacher of the Year!!! Thank you to Mr. Fejes for making a difference for so many young people! We are so proud of you!

Our HMS Book Club attended the annual KSU Reading and Writing Festival this week, participating in workshops and learning from authors! Incredible experience…and 3 of our student writers received awards!

Reading The Westing Game in class together…and taking notes on their Clue Tracker! This mystery has students thoroughly engaged!

Cartooning and Animation students work on their comic strip project - so fun to see students’ creativity shine through in their storylines and digital art!

8th grade students collaborate in the Team Learning Area on their American History Manifest Destiny Project.

One of our 7th grade teams had an amazing day at the Cleveland Natural History Museum, seeing science standards come to life! HUGE THANKS to our HMS PTO for providing transportation for this event!
