Congratulations to HMS teacher, Mrs. Rachel Adams, for being honored at the Take a Second, Make a Difference celebration through Hudson Community First. Mrs. Adams, like so many others, make a lifelong, positive difference in the lives of our young people in Hudson, and we are so appreciative! Thank you!!

Thank you to our visiting Fulbright Scholars through Kent State (from Bangladesh and Uzbekistan), greeted by these sweet students on their last day at HMS. We will miss you and are grateful to have learned with you! What an amazing opportunity for our students and staff!

102620233

Relationships are so important! As we prepare for our upcoming Washington, D.C., trip with our 8th graders, we pause to spend some time building connections within our chaperone groups, during Advisory!

102620233

Up out of their seats, collaborating and problem-solving! Here, students are practicing the Laws of Exponents through some in-depth mathematical discussion!

10272023b

Can you spot the butterflies? 8th grade Science students learn about adaptations and then create butterflies that “hide in plain sight” in the classroom! A (friendly!) visiting “predator” tries to find as many butterflies as they can!  How fun is this??!

102620235

Sculpture students begin to create their clay vessels! We love seeing their creativity!

102620236

Identifying and classifying materials, through exploration, observation, and experiments, in Science class!

102720232

We LOVE this visual of one of our team's Community Agreements, a shared vision for how we'd like our team to be this year, for our students and staff!

Student-created Greek pottery in 7th grade Social Studies, with each student researching a Greek achievement or legacy, designing this pottery artwork, and writing a museum tag about how this achievement or legacy has impacted our modern-day. Such beautiful work!

102620237

In math class, students explore probability (scooping blocks out of a jar as a helpful visual), while incorporating a number of strategies!

102620238
102720231

Review stations in Science! Students completed a number of collaborative activities, including a card sort activity (convection, conduction, and radiation) and a hot vs cold water experiment!

HMS Team Spirit Wear - Second Chance order by 10/27:

  • We LOVE our middle school communities!! If you haven't had a chance yet to order your team spirit wear, and would still like to, the link is open for a Second Chance order opportunity through Friday, 10/27!

  • This second-chance link will take you to our Hudson Middle School sale, where you can then click on your child’s specific grade level team to view the selections and/or make a purchase. NOTE: This will be the only Second Chance sale this school year, due to printing materials and processes.

  • These HMS Team shirts are designed by the team! Throughout the year, teams will hold spirit days to bring our students and staff together and to celebrate our team spirit! The purchase of team spirit wear is encouraged, but optional.

  • If you have any questions or need support purchasing a t-shirt, please contact your child’s team teacher named in the team email, or your child’s school counselor; they can help.
  • Profits from this sale will benefit your child’s team directly, providing for team activities throughout the school year.

Quarter 1 Report Cards:

  • Each quarter the report card is available electronically on HAC, by clicking on the Grades icon. For the first quarter, because it is the first report card of the year, we are also sending home a paper copy today with students.

Holiday Sharing:

  • Please check out our Holiday Sharing document, with information about our district-wide efforts to support local families in need this holiday season.

  • Our middle school canned food drive runs from Monday, 10/23, through Friday, 11/14. Students are asked to bring in non-expired canned goods for donation.  Since these cans will be used long past Thanksgiving, please consider donating a variety of foods. Science teachers will be collecting the cans in their classrooms.

  • In addition to canned goods, coming up this week are some fun opportunities for students to donate $1 toward this worthwhile cause:

    • Sit-with-a-Friend during Studyhall - all week
    • Halloween Dress-up on 10/31

    • Hat Day on 11/1
    • Pajama Day on 11/3

HMS Staff Shout Outs:

  • Has an HMS staff member made a difference for your child? We love to show appreciation for our amazing staff at HMS! Here’s an opportunity to share more personally if a staff member has made a difference, no matter how big or small. I will be sure to recognize their efforts individually and quietly.
